Solar Eclipse Participation Letter and Opt-in Permission Form for Apri 8th
If you want your student to participate in the Solar Eclipse event on April 8th at Scobee, please complete the form sent home with your child. Without this opt in form, your student will not be participating with their classmates in the eclipse viewing. As always, student safety is our top concern. Looking at the sun is unsafe. The Sun can burn the retinas in your eyes, leading to permanent damage or even blindness. This can occur even if your eyes are exposed to direct sunlight for just a few seconds. To view an eclipse safely, students must use eclipse viewers or eclipse glasses that have a specialized solar film designed to protect your eyes.
Campus staff will provide eclipse viewing cards or glasses for students wishing to participate in this rare event or they may access an alternate indoor location for students not wishing to participate. At no time should students look directly at the sun without eclipse glasses or eclipse viewers.
Please understand there is no way for the school to guarantee that your child will not look at the sun without the eclipse viewers/glasses, so please speak with your child about the importance of following safe viewing practices at all times during this event.
