Military Families

At Francis R. Scobee Middle School and Southwest ISD, we are proud to welcome our military-connected students and families to the Scobee community. We understand that military life often comes with frequent moves, new environments, and unique challenges for both students and parents. Our campus is committed to creating a supportive and welcoming environment where every student feels valued, connected, and prepared for success.

At Scobee, we work closely with military families to help ease transitions and provide academic, social, and emotional support throughout the school year. Our goal is to ensure students feel a sense of belonging from the moment they arrive on our campus. Through strong relationships, campus resources, and a caring school community, we strive to make every transition a positive experience and provide the quality education and support our military-connected students deserve.

Transition Program

Scobee Middle School connects new students with a student ambassador through our Student Ambassador Program. Student ambassadors help military-connected and new students adjust to their new school environment, become familiar with campus routines, and build positive peer connections.
The Student Ambassador Program is a student-led initiative that promotes leadership, inclusion, school involvement, and a welcoming campus culture for all students.

Scobee offers a variety of clubs and organizations for students to get involved in throughout the school year, including but not limited to:

Tutoring Opportunities

Students may receive tutoring support throughout the school year. Please contact your child’s teacher for specific tutoring days and times.

Bus transportation may be available on designated days for tutoring services.

Tutor.com/military is a free online tutoring and homework help service available 24/7 for military-connected students and families.

Scobee Military Liaison

The campus-based military liaison serves as an advocate for the military community and integrates the military student into campus. Provides resources and program information support to military families. Interacts with military families and students. Serves as the primary point of contact for school-related matters, assists military families with educational issues, coordinates with local school systems and forges partnerships between the military, community and schools. They oversee staff development initiatives and coordinate a range of events, such as Purple Up Activities, Veterans' Day Programs and Military Child Appreciation Activities.

They specialize in serving military families with PreK-12 school age children and are able to provide information about the local school system and community. The liaisons will support parents with the Interstate Compact for the Education of Military Students interpretation, serve as a link between military families and ensure maximum educational opportunities for academic success.

The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children

The Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children (Military Compact) exists to strengthen transitions and close educational gaps as military children move to a new school district in another state. Texas has been a member of the Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission (MIC3) since 2009. As of 2014, all 50 states, including the District of Columbia, have joined the Military Compact. The compact applies to Active Duty Service Members, National Guard, Veterans medically discharged or retired for one year, and members who die on active duty. [TEA, 2004]
